Dolphin Jewelry Buyers Guide Buyers Guide - Choosing the right category for her taste.

Dolphinjewelry.com has a wide variety of all categories of jewelry.

Some of our competitors carry mostly pendants and very few of other jewelry items. I have not seen any other dolphin jewelry site offer to sell a stand alone necklace to place a pendant on. At dolphinjewelry.com you have the convenience of purchasing any category, (ring, pendant, slide, necklace, toe ring, earring or bracelet) and we also have different necklaces available to place any pendant or slide on. Please note that we can special order any chain in any millimeter or length for you. Just email us the particulars of what you want and we will special order it for you. It will arrive to you in the same amount of time as any of our items.

So now that you know we have a little something for everyone, (and convenient one-stop shopping) let us help you make the choice of what category might be a good fit for you.

Start taking notice as to what type of jewelry is often worn by the person
receiving it as a gift.

  • Does she wear gold or silver?

  • Does she wear rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pendants or all of the above?

  • Does she wear dainty jewelry or heavier pieces?

  • Does she wear all categories together or just a single item here and there?
The answers to these questions will help you determine what type of jewelry will be appropriate when making a gift purchase decision. Try to match your purchase to her taste. If you notice she never wears earrings, maybe her ears are not pierced or she does not care to wear earrings. If she wears all jewelry categories, you can probably be safe choosing from any of the above categories mentioned. Jewelry is an expensive item. Sometimes a certain category might not be worn because the person wearing it has a limited budget to spend on jewelry. In that case, any gift you choose should be much appreciated.

Following is some helpful information about different categories
of jewelry:

Necklaces/Pendants/Slides:
A necklace or a pendant will be a nice added touch to her neckline and compliment anything she wears. Be sure to choose the right length chain. A 16” or choker will sit right above the color bones. 18” or princess length is the most common and falls right over the collarbones. 24” or opera length is made to be worn over a blouse, sweater or dress. All omega necklaces are choker length. Most of our slides are heavy pieces and when placed on the omega, are stunning. The omega is a beautiful, shiny chain. It is unlike any other link. It is flexible and ours are concave to facilitate a nice lay. The omega\slide combination is a substantial and heavier look (even in a thinner millimeter). This purchase will make a bold, beautiful statement.

Remember not to put a heavy pendant on a dainty chain. This will not look appropriate and over time will put too much stress on the link of the chain. Different links capture the color of gold in different ways. A “wheat” link is a nice versatile link that goes well with most pendants. We recommend this chain for its versatility. A nice diamond cut rope goes well with diamond cut pendants. All of our chains have a heavy duty “Lobster Claw Clasp”. The lobster claw is much sturdier than the round spring clasp and is easier to put on. If you purchase a necklace for a loved one, offer to put it on her neck. There is something romantic about putting a necklace on a woman. Maybe you could take the opportunity to give her neck a gentle kiss as she swoops up her hair for you to put it on!

Another nice feature about a necklace\pendant combination is its two-for-one quality. She could wear the pendant on the necklace or wear the necklace alone. You could purchase other pendants in the future that can be interchanged with the current pendant\chain purchase.

Earrings:
Earrings come in many different sizes and shapes. Take notice to the size earrings your gift recipient wears. Most women with very short hair do not wear big, bulky earrings or large hoops. There is a fine line here on what might be fashionable and what would look out of place. On the contrary, women with medium to long hair might wear a larger earring or it won’t be seen. Earrings are an item that might not be looked at as a romantic gift (over a ring or a necklace) but I know a lot of women who wish they had more earrings. It is an item rarely bought by them or as a gift. Dolphin Jewelry, Inc. can give you the best of both worlds if your budget allows. We have some earrings that match pendants and can be purchased as a set. You can really purchase many of our earrings to go along with other categories because they are all within the “nautical” theme.

Bracelets:
I love bracelets. They are as universal as a watch. They are usually never hidden by clothes or hair. Bracelets are a sizable investment given the amount of metal (gold or silver) in them. A bracelet should hang slightly down toward the hand (when wrist and arm are down) but not be so loose as to come close to falling off the hand. A bangle or link bracelet should not fit tightly. There should be some free movement in between the wrist and bracelet. The standard bracelet comes in 7” length. The majority of women have a 6 ½ - 7” wrist. Some of our bangles can be purchased in 6”, 6 1/2”, 7”, 7 1/2” and 8” lengths. Many link or chain bracelets come in a standard 7 inch length. Many could be downsized by a jeweler for smaller wrists. (Sorry, we do not provide that online). Some bracelets can be special ordered in 8”. Just email any special requests and we will try to accommodate you.

Rings:
I do not know many women who do not wear rings. Rings are a very popular gift purchase. All of our rings come in a standard size of 6-6 ½ . Please know this is pretty standard in the industry. Any store you buy a ring from comes in a standard size and needs to be sized to fit the finger.
(The average woman’s ring size is a size 6).

I’m sorry to say that we cannot special order different sizes from the manufacturer. Ring sizing (if needed) will have to be done by a jeweler. The safest bet to get just the right fit is to take it to a jeweler with the person who will be wearing it. I have found that a size 6 at one store was more like a 6 ¼ at another. All of our rings are placed in an elegant, velvet lined gift box and will make a beautiful statement the way they are presented.
Please use the rule of noticing the taste of the gift recipient when it comes to a ring purchase. You should take notice to the size hand and finger it will be worn on. Do not get a large, bulky ring for someone with short, dainty fingers and short fingernails. Do not get a dainty ring for someone with large hands or large fingers. If you have any questions on any purchase needs, again, email us and we will be happy to help.
